28 and 29 of 29 faces

The last two faces for the 29 Faces challenge with Ayala Art, those of you bloggers who also are on the Facebook page 29 faces already know these last few days' faces.

Face 28: chalkhead

On the facebook page one of the participants had made two faces of school-chalk. I thought it was so cool and as I love sculpting I simply had to try it! I already started a new one, will post it some other day. This head is made from my daughters street-drawing-chalk. It is very soft and really difficult to work with. I used a small brush to remove the dust, but the brush could take half the nose, if I wasn't careful. He is not really finished, but I'm not sure if I will do any more about him, maybe I'll draw a face with him on the street :-)

And face 29 the princess from the fairy tale: The Frog Prince; or Iron Henry
She has been part of an earlier post, or rather: she was on the skirt I have posted a few weeks ago, so now you get a close up of her face :-)

Below you can see a little dog I "found" on the skirt I've painted these faces on. I'm not counting him in as one of the faces, but I will just go on painting faces, as that is what I love to do!

Dear all people from blogs and from facebook and especially the one person who initiated the whole thing!

27 of 29 faces

The portrait below was inspired by another participants portrait on Facebook. The colours just seemed perfect for my sketchbook page. She is a bit askew and her nose is too long,
but well - nobody is perfect!

I post another sketch after a photo of survivors of the siege in Stalingrad. I just tried to catch the mood and expressions on peoples' faces.

Here is now a profile sketch of my husband :-) it's a sketch obviously not finished.

A model needs to be very dedicated to sit still, and in my family they don't ;-)

Three days to go and I'm off today, studying. Hope to visit some of you all

25 of 29 faces second version

I'm not quite sure if I am satisfied with the painting, so I made a cut out and place it here. What do you think?

A new start

I have to tell you something. Some writing assignments are waiting for me right now, maybe I've said it before, but it is absolutely necessary for me to finish them RIGHT NOW!!!!
So I cleaned my desk, so I can really get a new start on my tasks.

Here you see:

This cleaning and sorting out has given me new energy and I need it!

I will add the last faces in the next days, but I will not have much time to visit all the people connected with the 29 faces challenge with Ayala Art. I hope you'll understand!

I appreciate every visitors comments. It means so much to me that you take interest in my doings with art and it is fantastic to meet you on your blogs and see the art you all are producing!

See you around and keep up the good spirit!

25 of 29 faces

Today I add a portrait in a bigger scale. It is 72cm x 102cm. I was visiting some blogs and on one blog I suddenly got the urge to move out of my sketchbook.
So here are some process-pictures:

The last photo is taken, while the paint was still wet, hence the shine. There is still work to do on this, but it is really cool to work with bigger paintings! There will be some more shaping of the face and body and the background needs more substance still.

Another Frida in my sketchbook.

Adding some colour suits her well. Frida often portrayed herself very colourful.

23 of 29 faces

A photo from a theatre performance was the model for my painting in my sketchbook.
The background was created beforehand, meaning not in connection with the portrait, but it seems to give an interesting effect.

6 more faces to go!

More than 22 of 29 faces

Just for fun: A face I tried to form like a relief in gesso. A work in progress!

Face 22: a portrait in my sketchbook.

some sketches I have done earlier, if you would like to see some more faces I have done:

And a little felt-project I'm working on (started yesterday). It is going to have some more embellishments, as I'm going to integrate some gold embroidery. This will be awesome to work with! The felt is made with merino wool, silk fibre and gold thread. It is very soft. I have all forgotten how good these materials feel :-)

Below you see the resist I have cut out of a juice canister:

And the felted figure from two different angles:

Some detail pictures of my stitching:

For the Party on Friday I put something more into it, hope you enjoy the tour through my small projects!

Happy Paint Party Friday!

Here is the link to some fantastic art: PAINT PARTY FRIDAY!!! :-)

And of course the fantastic 29 faces travel at Ayala Art!

21 of 29 faces

Another face in my sketchbook.
This once a face I drew in January, and I'm posting it, because I wanted you all
to have the chance to see him.
He is a German actor and a good one also. Quite a character, I think.

Enjoy the faces already there and those yet to come. Very soon this challenge is over.
Thank you for this incredible journey Ayala Art!

20 of 29 faces

Again a WIP!

Let me hear, what you think of it!
I sketched from photos one against the light and one with the light, that is why the backgrounds are contrasting.
It is again a mixed media peace, still some work to do with it. Maybe I will add another colour to it for the dress. I'll see what happens.
Often I follow spontaneous ideas, like yesterday!

Worked on the painting again with pastels and acrylics as well as graphite water colour.
It is beginning to look like a finished painting, but I will give it a little time, before i decide.

20 faces done!

19 of 29 faces

This is a work in progress, though almost finished!

I'm quite fond of her actually :-) usually don't tell you, but I just had a look at her and, she came about a bit differently than most of these faces I've been doing lately.

Some details added:

Oh my, I think I'll have to reduce some of the blackness/shading again.
Painted on 300g/m2 - 140lb cold pressed acid free water colour paper.
Size: 30x40cm - 12x15.5 in

When life takes turns

Just now I learnt about a boy who has leukemia. The boy had been ill, and as the flu is taking its round, it was expected to be the flu. But symptoms have been different from the flu, and now the boy is in hospital for treatment. That is all I got to know, as the family is not close to us. Anyway it hits me.
I had intended to do some study-work and now I'm sitting here again wondering what is going on around me.

today's face is once again a sketch in my little square sketchbook

14 of 29 faces

Today is the day I gave myself a treat! I found some workable clay yesterday, and I gave myself one hour to work a face out of it. One hour because I have an important assignment to finish!

Very important: I listened to my favorite music at the moment: Vivaldi's "Winter" from the Four Seasons, played by musicians outdoor in Venice, another treat! It is so fascinating to sea the video clip, carnival in Venice!!! Love this peace all together! It reminds me of my visit in Venice in November 2011, the 54th Art biennale. It's starting again soon (in June?) Would love to go again!!!!!!! :D Maybe I will... Enough of that ;-)

So here is a lump of clay:

After a few minutes you can see the first facial features:

The next few photos the face is slowly being worked out:

Below it looks quite like a face,

but the profile is not done:

To be able to work out the profile, I have hollowed the lump:

Flattened face:

Now it was easier to work on the features, but the clay also easily creased, so I had to be careful:

This is how far I went within an hour. Still a lot to proceed on before I would call it finished!
To give you an idea of the size of the face I took some photos, using the face as a mask:

It is about 23 cm.

One new photo!!! But still some way to go:

Sculpting is my favorite art form. But it is also a very time consuming and complex process. Also it is something I have least experience with, as painting and drawing is more easily done in between my main duties!!!

So before starting on duties again (14th) I experimented with the face, making marks and adding colour. Please let me know, what you think about the result!

Hope you enjoyed this, I did :-)

Happy 29 faces!
