new faces: 6, 7, 8 and Mix it Monthly

I've found a wonderful sketch by Leonardo da Vinci here:
http://www.universalleonardo.org/media/100/0/pointingladyrc.jpg

I used the body as part of my contribution to the Mix it Monthly challenge.
As I'm making portraits and sketches of my niece during the whole month of September for the 29 Faces challenge that Ayala Art has set up again this September, I added my niece's head to the body of "The pointing lady". But I must say that the tiny size of the head in this piece makes it difficult to get enough detail to really work out the likeness I strive to achieve! I would like to work on it a little more :-)
The colors for the challenge are hibiscus (collaged paper leaves and flowers) mint green (dress) and grey (sketch, pastel pencil). In the second version I added feathers digitally, to complete the challenge themes.

The faces 6, 7 and 8 of 29 faces:

I bought some gift wrapping paper rolls (5!) because they had such nice colors and prints that I liked for collaging and I used one of them straight away for a portrait/sketch. She is a bit askew, but otherwise the likeness is pretty close I think! "Entschuldige bitte liebe M! Ich übe gang fleissig und arbeite daran, die Ähnlichkeit besser hinzubekommen!"

Face 7 above could even count as conrtibution for the Mix it Monthly challenge as well as the colours I used are there as well as the feathers :-)

Here a little charcoal sketch on water colour paper.

Thank you very much for visiting! There are a lot of amazing artists around the blogging world, hop over and visit the wonderful Ayala Art and Pia Rom!

Some impressions from the exhibition

What a week!
The opening of the exhibition went well! So many nice people came to see our art. I have a few photos, that I will share with you today:

The poster for the exhibition:

Below you see a photo of my collages before they were hung in a meeting room.

A little series of mixed media collages, hung in the café area of the building:

Me, during the speech of Jasmin. She is an arts-teacher as well. It is her painting that is on the poster.

Abstract drawing in the cafe area:

A portrait/collage:

Japanese woman, gouache painting:

Coldneedle print after a croquis-drawing of two young women:

Mixed media portrait - the first in which I blended acrylic, charcoal and pastels! :-)

I forgot to ask somebody to take pictures during the opening of the exhibition, how :-(!
I will take some more photos when I visit next time. Maybe my nephew will do me a favour and take some pictures. He's really good at it!!!

I'm sharing this - a little late - with the wonderful people at PAINT PARTY FRIDAY
Have a look at the gorgeous art shared on Kristin and Eva's blog!
Have a wonderful Sunday and thank you for visiting!

# 5

A more detailed drawing. Sketched in charcoal and sepia. I've added colour and used sepia as a background and to give her a more natural skin colour.

I think working on a variety of pictures of the same person helps understand the features better and in the end I hope I will be able to paint her, maybe even from a different angle, and still get the likeness needed for her to be recognized by people who know her.
As I am working on contributions for the "Mix it Monthly" challenge, I link to that inspiring place.

I hope you enjoy the 29 Faces challenge! I do :-)
Thank you for visiting!

# 4

Yet another angle. Tomorrow I'll have to choose which of the three versions I want to use to paint a portrait.

# 3

I have done a sketch from another photo and think it has quite a good likeness, but still some more to work on :-)
It is really a good training I should do more often!
Thank you to all you visitors! It's great to be part of 29 Faces again :-)

Here she is now:

# 2

I set up the exhibition today and had very little time for painting. It was really great to hang the pictures in the "Aktivitetshuset" a cultural centre for the Danish minority in Flensburg. The other artist is a sweet girl and she is really happy that we do the exhibition together and we talked about other possibilities in the future :-) it was really great!

Now because of all the work practical things to be done and family to care fro, I had only an hour or so to work on the portrait I started yesterday. I think I will let her be as she is for now and start something fresh tomorrow...but I really love that profile photo my niece sent to me, so I might give it another go ;-)

I hope to be able to visit you all tomorrow! Thank you to all you visitors and sweet comments!!!
