After some illness back with some art

I have been ill since Easter and though I have been able to make some drawings and other stuff I was not really fit for blogging. But I want to show you the proceedings with my Face in the World group and a few other paintings and drawings I have been working on.

Starting with the Face in the World: I had a few ideas for this face. Should I give her hair? I really liked the idea, but was not sure if it was the right thing to do with this one...

So I tried with some tulle once in white as hat and ruff...

And a black veil, but I was not convinced, so I gave it a little more time and finally I decided

to give her a dress. As a tailor this was a fantastic option and I found some fabric matching her eyes and tulle to go with it. I stitched the edges and sewed the tulle onto the fabric with my sewing machine and added some beads and a tiny rose of tulle and fabric... now she is sent off to Audrey Breed and after her Milo Wylde Chin to make her complete! :-) A real delight to do this!

The next painting was quite untouched, meaning that apart from Beth who will receive her back in the end, nobody had worked on the painting. Beth Gould had used layers of paper collaged and there is Japanese writing included and I thought I would like to give her this Japanese touch and found a beautiful picture of a Japanese girl to paint from. I would have liked to continue working on her, as I think she is rather special, but she is also sent off to Audrey Breed in Tennessee!

I now want to show you a few portraits and drawings I have worked on.
There is this WIP, the little girl from Constantin Hansen, a Danish artist from the mid 1800.

And this painting/drawing in acrylic and pastels, both soft and oils

and an old man with wild hair, though it was even wilder in the photo!

Finally I have a drawing of a poppy-seed head:

  1. It's amazing how the hair can change the personality. My neighbor has no hair right now from chemo, but her face is so expressive. Love looking at all these faces and thinking of their stories. Even the poppy seed head seems to have a tale, even though it's masked :)

  2. All of this is amazing and you have been ill too! Well done, I like how the tulle changed the face even the black veil. But my favourite is the acrylic and pastels work.

  3. you've been busy despite not feeling well! Fun to see the demo of what to do with her hair. It's really interesting how different they all are. Your portraits are all so interesting. They all seem different in style, and yet they seem to belong together!

  19. I'm so glad you are feeling better and that you were able to work on your artwork during your illness. It's always a relief when you can practice what you love at times like that. Your portraits are fantastic, I especially like the first one with the tool and the acrylic/pastel portrait before last. Your treatment of eyes is especially entrancing. Blessings!

  23. Ciao Ilona, this is Alex from Italy. I really like your portraits and I think I'm going to copy from you the idea of adding tulle and other fabrics to give texture to my faces.

Thanks for explaining your thinking process.
