Exhibition

Strange how things happen sometimes. When I learned about my father in laws passing last week I also got an e-mail from a cultural centre in Flensburg where I have asked about the possibilities of making exhibitions for me and fellow artist. So now I am preparing for a new era in my life as an artist.
-And the doubtful questions creep through my mind: Am I an artist? Is my work worth looking at for anyone but you and me, dear blogger friends?

It will be the first time ever that I have the possibility to show my art for a public audience with the possibility to sell my art.

In this blog post I have collected some of the pieces I have chosen for the exhibition, though I'm not quite sure. They show a small range of the techniques and expressions I have been working with during the last two years, they can be divided into four themes:

collage and graphics:

Mixed media/Stillife:

Mixed media/portraits:

Abstracts:

I don't know exactly how much space there will be for me. I need to visit the place and take a look at the rooms and maybe I will do the show with a fellow artist. It is rather scary to think about and there are so many things I don't know that I think it would be good not to be alone with this!!!
Please let me know what you think about the choices I have made until now (it may change still and I would like to produce something fresh for the show also).

I'll link this to PPF on friday, check out the artists getting together every friday!

    Tolle Werke Ilona!
Erzähl uns dann wie es war!

  3. It's a good mixture of different techniques, so just go for it! It can be scary at first, and no doubt you'll make mistakes, but that's how you learn. And doing it together with someone else sure takes a lot of the pressure off! Good luck!

  6. Congratulations, Ilona. I think the work you have chosen shows such a great variety of strengths and talent. The first time for anything is scary but once you take that first step towards your dream it gets a little easier. Again, congratulations and thank you for your comment today. Wow, I am really excited for you!

  11. Ilona you have stunning unique work! Your style is evident! Shush your inner gremlin and just know you truly are a wonderful artist!! You are so diverse, I love the personality in all your portraits, and your abstracts are gorgeous too!! Pick the ones you love best and you can't go wrong!! Congratulations on the show and " It's not who your are that holds you back, it's who you think you are not!!" not sure who's quote that is but it I think it's true of many artists!! Don't let anything hold you back!! Believe in yourself|!!

  12. You really have gorgeous work in so many different styles. I agree with Giggles above - I have to work at silencing that inner beast myself (all the time.) Go for it - your work is beautiful

  13. Some will like your art some won't. That is just part of being an artist. We put ourselves out there for other's to see and criticize. Artists have gentle souls, we need that to create. However, we need tough skin too. Walk in with pride and confidence. This will translate to with people and they just may see your art differently.
I am sorry about your dad.

  14. I'm sorry about the passing of your father-in-law. I love all your works, especially the expressiveness and sculptural feel in all your mixed media portraits. Congratulations on your upcoming art exhibit!

  15. Sorry to hear your father in law passed away. That's fantastic news about the exhibition. You have a great variety of work in various styles and techniques to show - I especially love your portrait work and the abstracts. Good luck with the show and go with your gut instinct on which pieces to show. This is the first year I've done any exhibitions and pieces that weren't necessarily my favourite were the ones to sell - art is so very subjective!

  16. I see Your artworks the first time and I say: Your are artist. Say it to Yourself and be proud and happy. I have had many exhibitions and I know that it is exiting but all'll go well.
Your paintings are interesting and individual. Especially I like very much Your potrets. It is difficult to paint figure but You have made it wonderfully. Your lines are bold and eyes are expressive and meditative.
Best wishes and greetings from Finland :-)

Erika
